A few things surfaced in my mind a day after watching this. First the great work done by the other fishing vessel to get survivors on board. The second is the amazing heroic work done by the Coast Guard. Can any of us imaging the helicopter leaving you to do your job while they fly off for a few hours. Whoever the rescue swimmer was, you have my ultimate respect!

I'm a part time commercial fisherman from Michigan. I fly to Alaska and work. My first year was aboard F/V Golden Fleece from Kodiak Island on the Berring Sea in 2020. Everyday we heard the constant banging of sledge hammers on the ship. Everyday we mentioned the Skandies Rose in conversation pertaining to the constant ice removal. Second boat, F/V Journeyman actually sank at the dock during the off season. A kid was hired to remove ice and didn't. That ice is no joke and it WILL kill the lazy and unwitting.

I've worked the north sea as a processor in the bowls of a fishing/processing ship named F/V Golden Fleece. It was a short trip due to the sea-state. I had the worst sea sickness I've ever seen/had. We hid from the waves half the time. Each night I'd pass out to the sounds of the waves and sledgehammers pounding ice off the steel hull. Good times. 👍

You couldn't pay me enough money to ever get on one of these old-ass death trap crab boats. Seems to me that a brand new commercial crab boat would incorporate the necessary technology to keep the boat afloat in extreme conditions. And why they rolling out to sea in shitty weather? Makes no sense.

I absolutely love the voiceover for last communications from some of these vessels, whether it's the ones that are reenacted, or the source audio from these disasters (sometimes it's hard to tell!). It's far more chilling having audio to put you there. It's also insane how in-depth these are! I came back to watch this for a second time because another creator had a video on it and it was not as good as this one lol. I cannot express how much I respect your strive for objectivity, rather than regurgitating easy, shallow conclusions without explanation. Awesome stuff!

Beats the trash on TV!!!! I oftentimes watch the video twice because I am not a marine person. I have recognized that as many "computer tools " used for safety, it does come down to human error. I held my breath to see if everyone would be saved...I'm glad everyone was rescued.

A bridge should NEVER be art. It’s not a piece of artwork, a showpiece or a status symbol- it is a BRIDGE to carry people and/or vehicles across an obstacle. These people were idiocy and arrogance personified. I hope every single engineer involved in the design- and ignorance of issues- enjoys living with the knowledge that they KILLED people.

I used to be a salvage diver based out of Dutch Harbor and I can tell you from my experience, drugs and alcohol are a small factor in ship wrecks. Complacent engineering, poor seamanship, and reckless operation are the primary causes at play. Most of the crews I interacted with had no concept of things like watertight integrity or regular in depth casualty drills. Even the vessels at the company I worked for were outdated and poorly maintained. A couple of them even sank at the dock. Honestly the completely cavalier attitude towards general safety in hazardous conditions is pretty shocking.

As far as I'm concerned, the duck boats should be considered a Apportioned vehicle. And that would mean they would probably be off the road. As a former motor couch driver, the side of them are very thin. There is a metal skin, a thin sheet of plywood and the interior cover. As for the coach not having seat belts, it was not a requirement for that year. New coaches do have seat belts but from the description of this accident, seat belts would not have helped and might contributed to more injuries. I would never get into any duck, not even if my life depended on it.
